Smart business: The German Industry 4.0 Index for digitized products and services increased significantly 

More and more companies are digitizing their products and services or even developing complete 4.0 business models. This is the result of the “German Industry 4.0 Index 2022” from business consultancy Staufen. Compared to the pre-Corona year 2019, the index increased from 32 to 44 points in the Smart Business category. More than 350 top executives of German companies were interviewed for the survey.

Nine out of ten companies from Germany’s second largest industry sector still have ecological potential according to the latest study “Green Transformation in Mechanical and Plant Engineering”. Although everyone at executive level agrees that a green future will secure business success, only 23 percent of those surveyed see themselves as pioneers in terms of sustainability. For the study, business consultancy Staufen surveyed more than 150 companies from the German mechanical and plant engineering sector.

According to the current study “Green Transformation in Mechanical and Plant Engineering,” sustainability criteria have so far only played a minor role in supplier selection in the industry. Although the supply chain offers numerous starting points for green transformation in mechanical engineering, these are yet to be optimally utilized. In order to achieve the self-imposed climate targets, closer integration between manufacturers and suppliers is necessary.
